OK, I feel like I have to open new threads every so often just to keep things moving forward and give people a reason to check back. Please people, let's have some discussion here. So, it sounds like the best place to me would be at the alumni center. What are the costs? What are other options?

The thing about the alumni center is that it's so far from the house. If I'm making these decisions, I'm thinking about keeping people around the house. Maybe get permission to use the grade school (what's the name of that school on our block where we played ultimate?) grounds... put up a big tent on the playground, let people mingle around, sit in lawn chairs, play ultimate, go back over to the house whenever they want.

Well, that's another idea. Good one Mark. But I was thinking if we have some sort of dinner, we'd all be at the place (wherever it is) and all activities would be there, rather than at the house. We'd have activities for the kids and a bar or whatever so Smithies can just kick back and swap stories, etc. For a large number of people Smith has parking issues which I'm not sure the school could accommodate, much less the parking lot at Smith (unless they build a 9 story parking structure I'm not aware of. ) I'm not saying we'd be at the alumni center all day, all weekend, just for some event. Which brings us perhaps to the lodging. Is University Inn still in operation? It used to have some meeting rooms. That might be an alternative to combine a place where everyone will be staying with a place to meet, and it's walking distance to the house. I'm coming from the position of being a father of 3 young kids that will probably tour the house once with me but then need a place to play around and hang out safely. I'm sure they won't need much, there ought to be enough other kids to play with, they just need a place to run around. For that reason, initially I was thinking about City Park but I don't recall if there are picnic pavilions near the playground. The school would be good too, with the playground there and a few rented tents or something. Any current Smithies or local alumni that can start checking on prices and things? We need some legwork done to know which ideas are feasible.
