Here's the pertinent anniversary info courtesy of Marvin:
So everyone definitely wanted it after school has started eh? Oh well. I'll still try to make it if I can.
Did any other discussion about it happen? Location? Activities? (I mean, other than the ultimate game)

Jeremy, I don't think anything is set in stone for the event. Leonard Pugh was not at the meeting so I really don't know what his ideas are. I will try to get is contact info, and get it on the forum so people can get ideas to him.

The 50th Anniversary Smith House Celebration has been scheduled for October 10th -12th in Manhattan. The agenda for the celebration really isn't set yet. If you have any questions please send them to myself or Shawn Turner, who lives in the house and is heading up the 50th anniversary celebration efforts from the student side. The new alumni center has been reserved for the evening of October 11th. Currently we have put together a loose agenda for the weekend as follows Friday Evening Welcome Reception at Smith House Saturday Campus Tours, Activities ? (Here is where we need ideas) Saturday Evening Dinner / Dance w/cash bar at new Alumni Center (next to old stadium) Sunday Morning Send off brunch at Smith House This is a very loose agenda and we would love to get more suggestions to fill in the rest of the time. Hopefull everyone has gotten a "Save the Date" Card from Anneliese. All of the 50th Anniversary information should also be in the Newsletter that comes out in March. Here is the schedule for the event as it stands today.
The plans will take place October 10th - 12th 2008.
Friday 7:00 pm Welcoming reception at the House
Saturday AM Campus Tours provided by students
Saturday Noon Lunch and activities around campus and town on your own
Saturday Afternoon Ultimate Game with current students and alums
Saturday 6:00 pm Banquet and Dance at Alumni Center (Childcare provided)
Sunday 10:00 am Send off Brunch
There will be quite a bit of free time on Friday evening and during the day on Saturday. That should give everyone time to catch up with other alums and/or spend time in Aggieville.
The new alumni center is really nice and it should work well as a place to have our main "event". The old Ramada is now a Holiday Inn (785-539-7531). I know that we have a block of rooms rerserved there and that will be a really convenient place to stay. The cost per person will run around $50 and will include everything we do over the weekend. It should be a great time.

The committe that has been working on the 50th anniversary celebration is comprised of Monte Wentz, Shawn Turner and myself. We would like to get guys from different eras in the house to contact others that lived there at approximately the same time to generate more interest in the celebration. I have an alum list and can send part of it to anyone that is interested.
If anyone is interested in taking a few years let me know. This should be a great way to get more people there.

I may be able to attend, but it really depends upon another business trip to Switzerland. With our fourth born earlier this year, my PTO is kindof wrecked.

I usually head to Zurich 2-3 weeks out of the year for work. I do make my way around Bonhoffstrausse, and have a chance to butcher my german.
I must have a horrible American accent... I ask questions in German, and get the answers in English.

Elfman,
I know very little German. I know the polite words and how to get the food and drink I want and some to get around, but that's it. I finally got to start traveling with my job the last couple of years. Made it to Germany three times mostly around SW corner. Tiffany got to go one trip and we went to the Swiss alps and drove back through Zurich. That entire region is so beautiful. We managed to get some wine from a Frenchman that spoke German but not English. That was really confusing.
OK - this thread is officially hijacked! Enjoy your trip.

Yeah, Zurich is beautiful. I stopped there for a morning on my way to Vienna from France, back in college. I wish I could travel, but since the computer industry went south, there just isn't the money for that.
So, back on track, who here is planning on coming to the reunion? I'm thinking about it, checking airfare and stuff. I may be available for car pooling from KCI with someone.

So, there's gonna be an ultimate game so everyone should bring their sharpest cleats to squash some current Smith-men butts. I don't know how this will work with a huge crowd. We'll see. Maybe we should play at the Old Stadium!!!!
The other thing that I am nostalgic about after leaving Manhattan is the mountain bike riding. I probably won't be bringing my bike on the plane though and wondered if any current Smithies or local alumni have a decent mountain bike to loan me, and who would go along on a jaunt to the trails out at Tuttle.
