Hey guys! Credit to Stu Bachamp for pointing me to the site earlier this summer when I ran across him at the Lenexa BBQ. I'll apologize immediately for losing touch with Smith so badly ... and preemptively for the fact that I'll do it again. Here are the high order bits ... - In the house fall '93 through spring '95 and then moved into an apartment between City Park and Aggieville with fellow Smithies Todd Armatys and Brian Commerford. Unlike me, they're both married with kids now.
- I've been working at Garmin in Olathe since graduating in '97, however, I was part time with them while getting a MS in CS at UT Austin in '01-'03.
- I wrote software for Garmin for about 6 years, led a software team for 3 more years, and now I manage several teams and can't even see software development anymore - I just push paper.
- Never married. In between girlfriends right now (not in the way you're thinking, unfortunately).
- Looking forward to KSU football! I'll be back for the game on 9/15/07 and heading to Austin to watch both my teams battle it out on 9/29.
- I've gotten a bit more adventurous since college - vacationed in Brazil, Belize, and Thailand ... looking forward to India, Austalia, and NZ next. Tried rock climbing, scuba, and skydiving. Love running and hiking - going to Colorado this weekend for my 3rd stab at the Pike's Peak Ascent race.
Hope all is well with you guys! Shane

Shane,
Where are you thinking about going in India? I was there last year in the Mumbai area. It's very interesting. Be prepared!

We'll fly into Mumbai but move on down the coast. We'll be in the Goa resort area for a few days for my friend's bachelor party and then head to his hometown in Kerala. I'm not really sure what to expect except a lot of gin.

Many beggars. You'll encounter that as you leave the airport. Roads aren't so good. Deplorable living conditions for many of the people. It's sad. But a very interesting country/scenery/society. Have a great time! Let us know how it goes.

Shane should post this himself, but I'm not sure he's got the in-tar-webs down where he is. He has left Garmin (to many people's very great dismay) to, as I understand it, join the Peace Corps and work in Mexico writing GIS software. I guess the paper-pushing finally got to him. ;-)

Mr. Beachey is correct as usual - I picked up and moved to Mexico! It was a long application process with the Peace Corps and I wasn't sure if I'd go but they offered me a great assignment and I was ready for a change. So, I'm now living in Querétaro, Mexico (right in the center, N of Mexico City) and helping their equivalent of the EPA with their technology needs. I'm partly providing GPS training to their field workers, partly creating a GIS (geographic information system ... think Google Earth) database for their projects, and partly taking siestas. This is a standard 2 year term for the Peace Corps, so I'll be here a while. Sorry that I'll miss the reunion this fall, but I hope everyone is well and the reunion is a blast. Oh, I started a blog with pictures and stories for anyone who wants to know more about my Peace Corps experience: buenguerro.wordpress.com.
